At a recent ruling the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) charged a Leeds freight company with breaching the code of health and safety. The hearing, which took place on the 21st May at Leeds crown court ruled that the firm should pay £250,000 as well as £100,000 in costs.
The breach resulted in a man being crushed to death unloading glass from the container it had been transported in. The HSE inspector involved in the case explained that each event which contributed to this accident could have been easily avoided if correct procedures had been followed. He asked that other firms learn from this tragic accident and take note of the accident at work claim guidelines and regulations which the HSE provide.
